The Boy With the Dog
“The Boy with the Dog” is an incredible adventure story about a heroic boy named Zigis, who, together with his family and his dog Jerry, performed a miracle, saving the lives of many people.
Zigis sees and hears everything that happens in his home, and when Zigis gets scared, he hides in the doghouse with his faithful friend Jerry. Deep under Jerry’s house is a bunker where Zigi’s father hides people. Here, near Lipke, a pit is dug for life, not death. Here, they help, not harm. It is a big secret, and no one can be told about it. Zigis learns to understand the order of the world, asks questions and sees how important humanity is towards each other.
The play is based on the book “The Boy with a Dog” by Inese Zandere, and tells the story of Siegfried, the son of the famous Jewish rescuer Žanis Lipke, who was only 8 years old when his family gave shelter to Jews persecuted by the Nazis. The play has one actor.
Premiere on October 25, 2020, at the Žanis Lipke Memorial (Room Theatre)
